RIP AALIYAH

Last week the incomparable Aaliyah would have turned 36.

Nearly 14 years after her untimely death, that transcendent beauty and angelic voice are still very much a lasting focal point for fans, music lovers, and pop culture as a whole.

Her legacy is everywhere.

5 ways Aaliyah is still running the game:

  • One of the last singles she released was Rock The Boat, a slow and mesmerising tune which sounds nearly as sweet as it does sexy. In the last few years I’ve heard at least 30 different flips, covers, and remixes of this classic with each artist bringing their own flavour to a song that is undeniably loved the world over. I’ve heard it sped up into a club banger, chopped and screwed down as a nod to the Dirty South, and more recently, given a bouncy soulful sway with hip hop edges.
